Have you ever wondered what a typical day in the life of a dog breeder really looks like?
What does the daily routine involve? How much time goes into caring for the dogs, keeping everything clean, staying in touch with puppy families, socializing young puppies, preparing for dog shows, and simply making sure every dog receives the individual attention they need?
The truth is, no two days are exactly the same at Budai Alfa Kennel. But there are some things that are always part of our everyday life: care, responsibility, routine, plenty of work — and, of course, a lot of love.
We decided to take you behind the scenes and show you what an ordinary day with us looks like.
Our mornings start with the dogs
Our day begins with our dogs — usually before anything else.
Morning vitamins are part of our routine, and luckily, our dogs absolutely love them. We make sure everyone gets what they need before it is time for breakfast.
Depending on the day, breakfast may include cooked meat or premium-quality dog food, carefully chosen for our dogs’ needs.
Once everyone has eaten, it is time to head outside. Running, playing and exploring the garden is the perfect way to start the day.
Caring for our current litter
When we have puppies, a large part of our day naturally revolves around them.
Feeding, cleaning, playing, observing their development and spending time with them are all part of our daily routine.
As they grow, we gradually introduce them to new experiences, sounds, environments and situations in an age-appropriate way. These small everyday experiences play an important role in helping puppies discover the world around them and develop with confidence.
Cleanliness is part of every day
Keeping our dogs’ environment clean is one of the most important parts of our routine.
Beds, blankets, bowls and living areas are cleaned regularly, and we use dog-friendly cleaning products to keep their surroundings fresh and comfortable.
It may not be the most glamorous part of kennel life, but it is certainly one of the most important.
Then comes the “office work”
Being a breeder also means spending quite a few hours behind a laptop or phone.
We stay in touch with our puppy families, answer questions from future owners and interested families, provide advice, share updates and offer support whenever it is needed.
For us, our responsibility does not end when a puppy leaves our home. Staying connected with our families and being available for their questions is an important part of what we do.
And yes — office work often happens with a poodle sitting on our lap. 🐩
Afternoon walks, exercise and new experiences
Afternoons often include walks, exercise and time spent outdoors.
Every dog receives new experiences appropriate for their age and personality. For younger dogs especially, gradual exposure to the world is an important part of their development.
Different environments, sounds, people, surfaces and everyday situations all help them become familiar with the world around them.
Practice during show season
During dog show season, training also becomes part of the routine.
We practice movement, standing and being handled so that our dogs can feel comfortable and confident in the show ring.
These training sessions are kept positive and enjoyable — for us, the dogs’ wellbeing always comes first.
Our daily cuddle ritual
One of our favourite parts of the day usually comes in the evening.
Every dog is different. Some would happily spend hours being cuddled, while others prefer a little scratch behind the ears, a quiet moment beside us or simply being close to the family.
That is why every one of our dogs gets individual affection, attention and care in the way they enjoy it most.
They are not simply dogs living in a kennel.
They are part of our everyday family life.
One last game before bedtime
Before dinner and bedtime, there is usually time for one last big run, some ball play and a little fun together.
After a full day of activity, new experiences and plenty of attention, everyone can enjoy their dinner and settle down for a well-deserved rest.
And the next morning, we begin all over again. 🤎
